Strings 2018 Fellowship

We have received 142 applications to the Strings 2018 Fellowships. Given the large number of highly qualified candidates, we have decided to increase the number of fellowships to 29.

Among the fellowship recipients, 18 of them have been invited to give 5-minutes talks at the Gong Show session. The remaining 11 have received Honorary Mention and are on the wait-list.

All 29 of them will have their round-trip economy class airfares reimbursed according to the policy descrribed below and are invited to present their research works at the Poster Session.

We would like to congratule the following recipients on their Strings 2018 Fellowships. We look forward to their presentations.

We have established the Strings 2018 Fellowship to support up to 18 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Strings 2018 Fellows will be selected from applicants to the Gong Show session based on the abstracts of their presentations and their CV’s and publication lists, and they will be granted slots for their oral as well as poster presentations.

The Strings 2018 Fellowship will be used to reimburse a round-trip discount economy class airfare from the nearest airport of each Fellow's home institution to the Okinawa airport. The reimbursement amounts are upper-bounded based on the OIST travel policy as follows.

From Japan actual amount
From Taiwan $   300
From Korea $   500
From mainland China $   600
From other Asian countries $1,100
North America and Europe (including Russia) $1,400
Middle East (including Israel) $1,800
Africa $2,300
South America $3,000

Fellows should purchase their airtickets, and we will reimburse up to the above amounts. The reimbursement procedure will be communicated to Fellows after they are selected.

If you are interested in the Strings 2018 Fellowship, please apply to the Poster Session & Gong Show. The application deadline is on 31 March 2018, and we will announce the selection of Gong Show speakers in mid April
